Abstract Details

to compare flap thickness in LASIK performed on thin and ultrathin cornea

: S.Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution Volgograd branch

there were analyzed results of 68 LASIK procedures (34 patients) on thin cornea and 45 LASIK (23 patients) on ultrathin cornea. All surgeries were performed on excimer laser SCHWIND AMARIS (SCHWIND Inc., Germany) with in-built function of on-line pachymetry. Flap was created by means of linear microkeratome Moria One-Use-Plus SBK. First pachymetric measurement was made before cut, the second preceded ablation.

mean value of the first measurement in the I group equaled 503,6±1,35 µm (from 486 to 519 µm), in the II group - 466,1 ± 1,58 µm (from 434 to 480 µm). Mean corneal flap thickness on thin cornea averaged 98,6 ± 1,5 µm, on ultrathin cornea - 93,8 ± 1,8 µm (4,9 % less). Difference between the average values of corneal flap thickness was statistically relevant (t=2,1; p<0,05). In all the cases residual corneal thickness after LASIK was less than 250 µm. Difference between mean values of the best-corrected visual acuity (0,89±0,024 and 0,91±0,025) was statistically irrelevant (p>0,05). No intra- and postoperative complications were registered.

LASIK on ultrathin cornea is possible when using linear microkeratome Moria One-Use-Plus SBK.
