Abstract Details

To analyze the visual outcomes and optical performance after cataract surgery with a new trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation

: Vissum Corporation, Alicante, Spain

24 eyes of 12 patients (age range 63-80 years) were included in this prospective study. All subjects underwent a bilateral cataract surgery with implantation of the new trifocal FineVision (Physiol, Belgium) IOL. Distance (4m), intermediate (80cm) and near (40cm) visual acuities (decimal scale), refractive outcomes, corneal topography, ocular aberrations and scotopic contrast sensitivity (3cd/m2) were evaluated during 1 month after surgery

A significant improvement in the distance corrected visual acuity (DCVA) was observed after surgery (from 0.46±0.20 to 0.90±0.18; p<0.01). Hundred percent of eyes achieved a spherical equivalent within ±0.50D. Postoperatively, the uncorrected near visual acuity was 0.61±0.15 and the uncorrected intermediate visual acuity was 0.69±0.28. The efficacy and safety indexes were 1.58 and 1.93 respectively. The ocular RMS high order aberration was 0.93±0.31µm 3 month after surgery. Contrast sensitivity values for all spatial frequencies were within the normal range values for this age population

The new trifocal intraocular lens FineVision IOL is able to restore successfully the distance, near and intermediate visual function after cataract surgery
