Abstract Details

To compare surgical results between conventional IOL implantation using an ophthalmic viscosurgical device and IOL implantation using a Lactated Ringer’s irrigating solution (Solution implantation technique – hydroimplantation)

: Department of Ophthalmology, 3rd Faculty of Medicine and Vinohrady Teaching Hospital Eye clinic SOMICH Karlovy Vary

A randomized prospective study. Group of 84 patients with bilateral cataract. One eye – standard implantation with cohesive OVD (Provisc). The second eye - lactated ringer was irrigated into the anterior chamber through a side port during IOL implantation. Surgical results were compared between the two groups. We evaluated the IOP, ECD, UCDVA and BCDVA. The minimal follow up time was 6 months

The drop of IOP 2 hours, 24 hours, 1 month after surgery was 6,1; 1,6; 3,0 in OVD group and 6,9; 2,4; 3,3 in hydroimplantation group. The results wasn´t statistically significant. The drop of ECD 1 month and 6 month after surgery was 273 and 266 in OVD group and 230 and 225 in hydroimplantation. The results wasn´t statistically significant.

Implantation without OVD is a safe and carefull procedure.
