Evaluation of psychological status in patients with cataract

The study of mental and emotional status in patients with cataract in the preoperative period.

75 patients with cataract (57 women and 18 men) was studied by same methods: Eysenck Personality Inventory, LeonhardÂ’s test, Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).


Excitable type was predominant generally (40%) and emotive type in men (62.5%). 60% of women was noted depressive symptoms. Anxiety and depression was subclinical severe in 49.3% and clinical severe in 36.0%, mostly women (66.7%).


Predominance of the excitable type and moderately anxious and depressive symptoms was established. The revealed features of psychological status will prove adequate psycho-correction methods and achieve the best rehabilitation. Also, these results may influence the assessment of life quality in patients with cataract in the post-op period. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
