Abstract Details

The evaluation of safety, efficacy and ergonomy in LASIK procedures utilizing a novel femtosecond and excimer laser surgery platform.

Setting: Eye Institute, Athens, Greece

278 consecutive LASIK were evaluated peri-operatively for the following parameters: Refractive error (RE), CDVA, UDVA, Topography and Tomography (Wavelight Oculyzer), angle kappa, Wavefront analysis, pupilometry (Procyon), contrast sensitivity (Vector Vision), cornea OCT (Optovue), flap parameters (thickness, diameter, hinge length) and flap creation (FC), excimer laser ablation (ELA) and overall procedure (OP) treatment times. All eyes underwent LASIK with the novel Wavelight refractive platform (FS200 kHz femtosecond laser and the 500Hz EX excimer laser). Average follow-up was 8.4 months (3 to 25).

The change from pre- to post-operative was for all parameter means: Average RE: -4.5D (-1.50 to -8.50D) to -0.25D; UDVA 20/80 to 20/17, flap thickness (110um, 8mm was planned): 107 microns (+/-5) and 8.1mm diameter, FC: was 15 sec ELA was 28 seconds respectively. OP was 7.2 minutes. There was no flap slippage, epithelial ingrowth or diffuse lamellar keratopathy (DLK) in any case.

The initial clinical experience with the above platform combines safe and effective visual rehabilitation results in myopic LASIK. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: ... travel has been funded, fully or partially, by a company producing, developing or supplying the product or procedure presented
