Abstract Details

To evaluate the efficacy and visual outcomes in patients undergoing simultaneous implantation of the corneal inlay and LASIK (Sim-LASIK).

Single site study, single surgeon at VISTA Eye Specialist, Malaysia.

This is an ongoing prospective evaluation of 34 consecutive patients undergoing Sim-LASIK. Study visits were at pre-op, Day 1, Week 1, and Months 1, 3, 6, and 12. Patients must be between +3.00 and -5.00 D spherical equivalent with less than 3.00 D of astigmatism and have more than 500 microns of corneal thickness.

The mean age of enrolled patients was 45.3 ± 2.6 years. Mean preoperative MRSE was -2.86 ± 2.41 D. At Month 3, 84.2% of patients had an UCDVA of 20/20 or better and 100% were 20/32 or better. Eighty-two percent had a UCNVA of N4 or better, with 94.1% having achieving a N5 or better. At Month 6, 90% had a UCDVA of 20/20 or better, and 100% were 20/32 or better. For UCNVA, 80% achieved an acuity of N4 or better and 100% were able to read at N5.

The simultaneous implantation of the corneal inlay and LASIK surgery provided good visual results in the majority of patients. This study is ongoing and longer-term data are being collected.
