Abstract Details

To study the clinical performance of Rose k irregular cornea (IC) design contact lens in post Lasik ectasia

Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India

A retrospective study was performed in 19 eyes of 10 patients with post-Lasik ectasia in which Rose-k IC design contact lens was fitted. Of these, 9 patients had bilateral and one had unilateral ectasia. These patients were fitted with Rose-k IC contact lens as all eyes had ectasia in the mid-peripheral cornea and the K2 design was not stable. The contact lens fit was assessed on parameters of centration, movement, coverage and fluorescein pattern. The demographic and clinical data including topographic pattern, best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), best contact lens corrected visual acuity (BCLCVA) and the contact lens parameters were recorded.

The mean age of the patients was 26.1 ± 5.82 years. All the eyes could be successfully fitted with Rose-k IC contact lens. The base curve ranged from 6.10 mm to 8.30mm. The overall diameter was 11.40 mm. The follow up period ranged from 2 to 9 months. The mean best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) with spectacles was 0.20 ± 0.076. The mean BCVA with Rose K IC lens was 0.92 ± 0.142 and this improvement in visual acuity was statistically significant. None of the patients complained of any discomfort during the follow up visits.

Rose K irregular cornea (IC) design contact lens is an effective modality for visual rehabilitation in cases of post-Lasik ectasia, particularly in eccentric cones. It results in optimal visual outcome and good patient acceptance of the contact lens. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
