Abstract Details

To demonstrate a safe and effective technique for removal of posterior polar cataract

A K Eye Hospital, Bareilly, India

In cases of posterior polar cataract, firstly a groove was made in the centre by low setting sculpting without hydrodissection or rotation. Than with the help of a fine cannula, hydrodelineation was performed from with in the groove on both the sides in 2-3 layers to seperate them from each other. After that at very low settings phacoemulsification was done to remove the pieces of nucleus and epicortex layer by layer without any rotation or chopping. Cortical matter was also removed slowly by I & A cannula and IOL was placed in the bag.

Multi layer hydrodelineation from with in the groove gave excellent results. It creates small pieces in layers without any rotation and chopping. This helped in removing the cataract at very low settings without producing any stress on thinned and weakened posterior capsule of posterior polar cataracts.

Hydrodelineation from with in the groove and in multiple layers, is a very effective and controlled method for removal of posterior polar cataracts. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
