Abstract Details

To report clinical results of an all-in-one femtosecond laser refractive surgery.

Espace Nouvelle Vision and Quinze-Vingts National Ophtalmology Hospital, Paris, France.

40 patients (80 eyes), with myopia or low myopic astigmatism were selected to undergo an intrastromal refractive surgery. ReLEx® was performed with the femtosecond laser VisuMax® (Carl-Zeiss-Meditec) which was used to create a lenticule corresponding to the refractive error to treat, and to make a small incision. The extraction was then performed by the surgeon. The post operative corneal structure was analysed by confocal microscopy (Heidelberg Retina Tomograph II/ Rostock Cornea Module confocal microscope).

The outcome measures included intra operative complications, uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE), keratocyte activation and density, fibrotic scarring and endothelial cell counts on in vivo confocal microscopy.

ReLEx® is a new method to correct myopia. This all femtoseconde laser refractive surgery satisfies the quality requirements of the today?s refractive surgery practice. Minimally invasive, by a small side-cut incision and no corneal flap lifted, the ReLEx® procedure seems to be safe and shows a greater stability in refractive change and corneal structure.
