Abstract Details

To investigate the incidence and functional outcome of binocular injuries according to data from cases, treated in our Clinic.

Queen Giovanna Hospital - ISUL " Department of Ophthalmology Sofia, Bulgaria

The study covers a period of two years in which 275 patients have been treated with ocular injuries in the clinic. From all the cases 19 (6.9%) were binocular due to various causes (road accidents, explosive traumas, chemical and thermal burns).

An analysis by age and sex has been made. The percentage of damage of the right (47.3%) and of the left (45.8%) eye is roughly same. In some cases the trauma has affected other parts of the body, which requires consultation with various other specialists. Finally the functional, anatomical and cosmetic outcome of binocular trauma is being analyzed.

Despite the severe clinical picture at admission to the clinic, maximum anatomical, cosmetic and functional results have been achieved due to the adequate diagnosis and targeted medical therapy. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
