Abstract Details

To consider potential evolution in material, size and shape of implants for capsular fixation.

Cataract Clinic Neupré – Ličge Belgium

Retrospective assessment of 23 one-piece models in a series of 4,220 eyes with a follow-up from 1 to 10 years.

a) Less dysphotopsiae with hydrophilics. Implants with the highest hydrophilicity (73 % water content) induce the lowest glare. b) Less posterior capsule opacification with hydrophobics. c) Material opacification in the Hydroview model. d) Many implants are either too big or too rigid , creating capsular striae. e) Refractive surprises and loop bending with some vaulted haptics. f) Optic tilt with some J-loop models.

IOL’s for the capsular bag might be improved by resorting to the following features : a) Low refractive index. b) Smaller overall diameter or increased flexibility. c) Cardinal haptic junctions to avoid capsulorhexis capture. d) No angulation when haptic is soft. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
