Abstract Details

To assess the effectiveness of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) transplantation in macular degeneration and optic neuropathy treatment

The Ophthalmology Department of Tractor Plant Medical Centre; Minsk, Belarus.

Four eyes of the patients were treated with the transplantation of 3 m autologic MSCs per eye. The injections were performed into subtenon capsules toward the posterior segment of the eyeball and followed by subsequent IV MSCs injections calculated as 1m per 1 kg of body weight. The clinical observation took from four to eight months.

No reliable changes in OCT data have been registered. There was registered 10-30 per cent (0.1-0.3) increase of visual acuity. In the field of vision there was registered a marked decrease in intensity of central scotoma.

MSCs autologic transplantation is a safe and effective method in treatment of macular degeneration and optic neuropathy. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
