Abstract Details

Recording ophthalmic microsurgical videos has enormous advantages for reflective practice and continuing professional development. We report a novel, inexpensive method of capturing microsurgical video.

Royal Free Hospital, London, United Kingdom

Our method utilizes a laptop, which many Ophthalmologists already possess, an inexpensive video capture device and a connector. Videos are recorded directly from the microscope video output onto the hard drive of a laptop.

We found our method was quicker, cheaper and more convenient to Ophthalmologists compared to other techniques previously reported. It reduces the necessity for purchasing recording media i.e. VHS tapes DVD-R discs. Videos also do not need to be transferred and are saved into a digital format making them easy to edit or embed in presentations.

This would be of interest to many Ophthalmologists who are interested in either teaching through video presentations or in learning through reflective surgical practice. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
