LASIK treatment of presbyopia in hyperopic patients using a new asymmetric SUPRACOR algorithm

To analyze efficacy and safety of presbyopia treatment using a new asymmetric SUPRACOR approach with Excimer laser. Dominant eye was treated with the standard Supracor algorithm, while the non dominant eye was treated with a new Supracor algorithm in which the near addition was increased by 30%. Refractive target was -0.25 diopters (D) in both eyes.

Prospective study of 48 eyes of 24 patients with a mean age of 53.1 years (min 44 / max 63). Preoperative manifest refraction was +1.69±0.74D (spherical equivalent [SE]: +1.41±0.81D). Distance (DUCVA) and near (NUCVA) uncorrected visual acuity, refraction, best-spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), asphericity and comatic aberrations were analyzed. All eyes have completed 3 months follow-up exam.


Three months postoperatively, binocular uncorrected vision was -0.01±0.08 for distance, 0.06±0.13 for intermediate, and 0.13±0.13 for near vision. Binocularly uncorrected 0.2 logMAR or better was achieved by 100% of the patients for distance, 90.9% of the patients for intermediate and 86.3% of the patients for near. Mean SE postoperatively was -0.52±0.42D. 55% of eyes were within ±0.25D and 75% were within ±0.50 D of refractive target


Asymmetric Supracor algorithm seems to be an affective and safe treatment for the correction of presbyopia in hyperopic eyes, giving good distance, intermediate and near uncorrected vision. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
