Abstract Details

To compare the outcome of Sequential 2 stage v/s Single stage 5mm capsulorrehxis in Intumescent Cataracts

Rawat Eye & Phaco Surgery Centre, Jaipur, India

76 eyes with intumescent cataracts were included in the study. In 40 eyes Single stage 5mm capsulorrhexis was made with microcapsulorrhexis forceps. In 36 eyes Sequential 2 stage 5mm capsulorrhexis was made in which at first stage a small capsulorrhexis of 1-2mm was made with cystitome or microcapsulorrhexis forceps followed by aspiration of cortical matter with 27 G cannula which helps in decreasing the intralenticular pressure and in Second stage the capsulorrhexis was enlarged to 5 to 5.5 mm with microcapsulorrhexis forceps

8 out of 40 eyes (17.5%) in Single stage rrhexis group developed extension of capsulorrhexis till equator. 1 eye had Argentinian flag sign i.e. developed extension on both sides till equator. In 7 cases Single Piece foldable Acrylic lens was placed in Capsular bag and in 1 case which had argentinian flag sign 6mm single piece PMMA lens was placed in the Ciliary Sulcus. 100% success rate of completion of capsulorrhexis was achieved in Sequential 2 Stage Capsulorrhexis group

Sequential 2 Stage Capsulorrhexis is better than Single stage capsulorrhexis for Intumescent Cataracts with minimal chances of extension of anterior capsulorrhexis FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
