Abstract Details

To evaluate age-related anterior segment changes using Pentacam Schumflug system.

Kudret Eye Hospital/Istanbul

230 eyes of 115 patients were measured with a rotating Scheimpflug camera (Pentacam). Subjects were divided into five age groups: 3 to 10 years (group 1), 11 to 20 years (group 2), 21 to 40 years (group 3), 41 to 60 years (group 4), and 61 years and older (group 5).

Anterior and posterior topographic axes showed tendency to become astigmatig against the rule changing from astigmatism with the rule, with age (anterior change from 11,2° to 36,7°; posterior from 9,1° to 19,1°). There was trend of decrease of anterior aspherity and increase of posterior aspherity with incresing age (anterior from -0,37 to -0,11; posterior from -0.09 to -0,73). Central corneal thickness, corneal and anterior chamber volumes showed tendencies of decreasing with age. Likewise the anterior chamber depth and the anterior chamber angle showed similar tendencies to decrease with incresing age.

Corneal and anterior segment structures are subject to change by the age. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
