Abstract Details

To study dynamics of vision-related quality of life (QoL) changes after keratoplasty.

Department of Ophthalmology, Silesian University of Medicine, Katowice, Poland

The study group consisted of 45 patients that underwent keratoplasty. Visual function questionnaire NEI VFQ-25 was filled out before keratoplasty and 3 weeks and 4 months after keratoplasty.

The mean overall score was 57.58 before keratoplasty and 66.34 and 66.38 three weeks and four months after keratoplasty, respectively. LogMAR BCVA of the operated eye was 1.92 before keratoplasty and improved to 1.01 in the 3rd week and 0.83 in the 4th month after keratoplasty. Pearson’s correlation coefficient between the change of VFQ-25 and the change of BCVA of the operated eye was -0.48 (p<0.0009).

Keratoplasty is associated with improvement of QoL as early as 3 weeks after surgery. Between 3rd week and 4th month following surgery no further improvement in QoL is observed. Change of QoL after keratoplasty is dependent on the change of BCVA of the operated eye. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
