Abstract Details

To evaluate the rotational stability of an anterior chamber phakic IOL

FreeVis LASIK Zentrum Mannheim, Medical Faculty Mannheim of Heidelberg University

In a prospective study, digital photographs were taken with the SMI Reference Unit (SensoMotoric Instruments GmbH, Teltow, Germany) one hour, 1 day, 1 week and 2 months after implantation of the Cachet anterior chamber phakic IOL (Alcon Inc., Ft. Worth, TX, USA) in 52 eyes. The IOL rotation was calculated between each timeframe after eye rotation was compensated using the SMI software.

Mean IOL rotation between 1 hour and one day after surgery was 1.3° (0-2.75°); between 1 day and 1 week it was 2.5° (0.5-7.5°), and between 1 week and 2 months it was 3.3° (1.3 - 8.8°). IOL rotation was less than 5° in all but one eye. This eye showed an slightly undersized IOL which rotated between each visit.

Using compensation of eye rotation, the Cachet anterior chamber phakic IOL did not show significant rotation in most eyes. Rotation observed in selected cases seems most likely due to improper sizing. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: ... is employed by a forNoprofit company with an interest in the subject of the presentation
