Abstract Details

To evaluate the efficacy and visual outcomes in patients undergoing hole ICL implantation for moderate to high myopia.

Single center study by single surgeon at VISTA Eye Specialist, Kuala Lumpur MALAYSIA.

This is an ongoing non randomized prospective evaluation of 10 eyes undergoing hole ICL implantation. Study visits were at pre-op, Week 1,and Months 1. The visual outcome , safety , efficacy, predictability, stability, IOP, secondary cataract and higher order aberrations assessed with subjective symptoms such as glare or halo were assessed

The mean age of enrolled patients was 32.4 ± 9.4 years (46 to 20). Mean preoperative MRSE was -6.16 ± 2.46D (range -2D to -9.75D); at 1 month the mean MRSE was -0.25 ± 0.21D. At one week and 1 month 50% of patients had an UCDVA of 20/20 or better and 100% were 20/25 or better. The mean IOP at 1 week is 16.9 ± 6.1mm Hg ;1 month is 15.7 ± 2.6 mm Hg. The safety, efficacy, predictability and stability of the lens is shown by the excellent refractive outcome . The IOP was within normal limits. Secondary cataract was not seen in any of these cases. Subjective glare or halo were initially mildly noted within the first week but gradually faded off over a month. None of the patients had visual disability with the glare.

Hole ICL implantation provides excellent outcomes of safety, efficacy, predictability, stability, visual performance and IOP control without iridectomy for the correction of moderate to high myopia.
