Abstract Details

Over the years the techniques of cataract surgery as well as intraocular lens (IOL) have evolved in order to make this surgery a refractive surgery that responds not only to the visual needs of the patients but also to their demands of day-to-day life. The multifocal toric IOL AcrySof ® IQ ReSTOR ® was developed so that patients with cataracts and astigmatism could enjoy higher independence from glasses. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the multifocal toric IOL AcrySof ® IQ ReSTOR ® as an option in cataract surgery as a refractive surgery.

The authors conducted a prospective study on 8 eyes of 5 patients who underwent cataract surgery (phacoemulsification with IOL AcrySof ® IQ ReSTOR® implantation). We evaluated the visual acuity for near (30 cm), far (5 meters) and intermediate (60cm) distances and the degree of satisfaction of these same patients.

Patients had mean uncorrected visual acuity of 7/10 to 10/10 at 1 month post-surgery, with an aspherical equivalent ranging from 0 to 1.0 diopters. The visual acuity remained stable at 3 months post-surgery. The degree of satisfaction regarding the independence from glasses was statistically significant for the sample (p <0.001).

The multifocal toric IOL AcrySof ® IQ ReSTOR ® is a good option for refractive surgery, allowing good distance and near vision without corrective lenses, resulting in a high degree of patient satisfaction. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
