The records of 12 patients (18 eyes) with sarcoid uveitis who had non complicated phacoemulsification with IOL implantation between November 2010 and February 2012 were retrospectively analyzed. The postoperative visual outcome, postoperative inflamation and macular edema were analyzed. Preoperative low dose MTX treatment had given all patient since at least 3 months. No systemic steroids were given after surgery.

Ten patients were female, 2 patients were male. The mean age was 61 years (range 54 to 68 years) and the mean follow-up, 9.13 months (range 3 to 15 months). At the final follow-up, all patients had better visual acuity than preoperatively. Severe postoperative inflamation and fibrin reaction occured in 7 eyes, IOL deposits in 2 eyes, cystoid macular edema in 11 eyes, epiretinal membrane in 4 eyes. Posterior capsule opacification occurred in 9 eyes and and Nd-YAG capsulotomy was required in 4 eyes.

Under low dose MTX treatment was effective in controlling postoperative inflammation after non complicated phacoemulsification with IOL implantation in patients with sarcoid uveitis.Nevertheless there is a need additional profilactic agents for the treatment of cystoid macular edema FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
