Abstract Details

: Corneal ulcer is a devastating corneal disease which is potentially sight threatening and conventionally is treated with topical antibiotics and in some cases with more invasive procedures such as keratoplasty. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of corneal collagen crosslinking in recalcitrant corneal ulcers.

Tabriz University of Medical Sciences

10 eyes from 10 patients with persistana infectious corneal ulcers who had not responded properly to maximal treatment with topical and subconjunctival antibiotics were enrolled in the study and underwent classic corneal collagen crosslinking with riboflavin and UV-A under the sterile condition of operation room and followed up regularly.

Except for 2 patients who underwent enucleation and tectonic penetrating keratoplasty,in 8 patients the result was healing and scar formation with improvement of vision.

Corneal collagen crosslinking is an efficient therapeutic option for treatment of corneal ulcers and can be used at least as an adjuvant treatment to conventional treatments FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
