Abstract Details

To evaluate the visual outcome and quality of life (QoL) following cataract surgery with single-piece aspheric enVista MX60 intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.

Eye Surgery Centre, National University Hospital, National University Hospital System, Singapore

This is a retrospective case review of 10 patients who had undergone phacoemulsification cataract surgery with enVista MX60 (Bausch & Lomb Inc) aspheric IOL implantation between October to December 2011. All patients had visually significant cataract with corneal astigmatism of <2 DC and no pre-existing ocular disease. Visual outcomes were evaluated during a 1-month follow-up period. The 25-item quality of life questionnaire (National Eye Institute Visual Functioning Questionnaire-25 [NEI VFQ-25]) was administered to evaluate the effect of phacoemusification cataract surgery with the MX60 IOL.

The study included 16 eyes (10 patients) ranging in age from 57 to 80 years (mean age of 65.4 years). Most of the patients in this study were female (7; 70%). The pre-operative uncorrected distance visual acuity (logMAR) ranged from 0.17 to 0.88 with a mean of 0.52 . The post-operative uncorrected distance visual acuity (logMAR) at 1 month ranged from 0.00 to 0.30 with a mean of 0.04. The difference in pre- and post-operative uncorrected distance visual acuity (logMAR) was significant (p<0.001). Pre-operatively, the QoL composite score was 86.4%. Post-operatively, the QoL composite score was 98.8%. There was a significant difference between the pre- and post-operative QoL composite score (p=0.03). No adverse events were noted during the 1-month post-operative period.

The visual outcome improved significantly following implantation of the enVista MX60 aspheric IOL. There was a significant improvement in the quality of life of our patients following phacoemulsification cataract surgery. FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE?: No
