Abstract Details

Purpose:

Estimation of reoperation with MEL 80 excimer laser after FLEx operation.

Setting:

IRTC Eye Microsurgery Ekaterinburg Center

Methods:

The study involved 720 patients (1437 eyes). In all the eyes initially FLEx operation with VisuMax femtosecond laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec) was performed. In 6 patients (9 eyes) reoperation with MEL 80 excimer laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec) was performed 12 months later due to regression of refractive effect.

Results:

Uncorrected visual acuity before FLEx operation was 0.04 ± 0.02; at day 1 post-op it made 0.69 ± 0.21 (p<0.05). Spherical equivalent before FLEx was -6.17 ± 2.56 D; at day 1 post-op it made – 0.18 ± 0.33 D (p<0.05). Corrected visual acuity was 0.99 ± 0.02 before FLEx and 0.79 ± 0.22 (p<0.05) at day 1 post-op. In 1 year after FLEx operation (before reoperation) uncorrected visual acuity was 0.26 ± 0.19; by 3 months after reoperation it made 0.96 ± 0.07 (p<0.05). Spherical equivalent before reoperation was -1.6 ± 1.12 D and made – 0.03 ± 0.08 D (p<0.05) by 3 months after reoperation. Corrected visual acuity before reoperation was 0.96 ± 0.07; by 3 months after reoperation it made 0.98 ± 0.04 (p>0.05).

Conclusions:

Excimer laser additional correction of ametropia may be successfully used after femtosecond laser extraction of corneal lenticula.
