Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the efficacy, predictability, safety and stability of EBK method for hyperopia up to +4,5 D.

Setting:

Microsurgery Eye Center Laser, Warsaw, Poland.

Methods:

The retrospective clinical study was based on the results of EBK procedures performed in 36 patients (66 eyes) from February 2013 till February 2014 in Microsurgery Eye Center Laser. All procedures were performed using MEL 80 Eximer Laser system (Zeiss). We performed standard ablations and topography guided ablations using Atlas Corneal Topography System (Atlas 9000) and CRS Master treatment planning software. The routine examinations took place in a period of 1 and 4 weeks and 3 and 6 months after the surgery. We estimated: the epithelialization time, UCVA in a period of time described above, the corneal haze, the dry eye symptoms, the level of patients' individual satisfaction.

Results:

3 months after the surgery 56 eyes (84,8%) had UCVA at the level of 0,5 or better. After 6 months UCVA was 0,7 or better in 56 eyes (84,8%). We observed only mild corneal haze (1st or 2nd in Fantes scale) in 3 eyes (4,5%). The dry eye symptoms were noticed in 40% of treated eyes up to 3 months. After 4 weeks from surgery 78% of patients were satisfied with the results.

Conclusions:

EBK seems to be a safe and effective procedure for hyperopia up to +4D. It provides a relatively quick visual recovery and eliminates severe corneal haze.
