Abstract Details

to examine safety, efficacy and tonometric outcomes of SLT procedure for patients with OAG;. Reducing the IOP values of 20% is our goal

Eye Unit, C. Cant├╣ Hospital, Abbiatergrasso, Milan, Italy

We collected the results at 1 week, 1, 3, 6, 12 months and then, every 6 months up to 132 months postoperatively. We treated with SLT procedure 118 eyes affected by OAG onto the 180┬░ inferior trabecular meshwork: 53 reduced their drops after SLT; 65 did not change their previous therapy after the procedure. 12 eyes had a new diagnosis of OAG or OHT: SLT was their first line of treatment. Statistical analysis is performed through t-Student test for paired data

After 11 years, 36 eyes out of 130 survived; 47 eyes were excluded for post-SLT surgery, 18 excluded for changing therapy for visual field deterioration but valid IOP or loss of effectiveness of previous treatments, 29 lost during follow-up. Their pre-operative IOP was 19.66(SD:3.2) mmHg (range 22-32). The IOP value today is 14,71(SD:1,88), -23.18% from the baseline value (p< 0.001). Regarding the single groups: the IOP average was 14.27(SD:2.73) mmHG for the eyes maintaining the same therapy. The IOP average was 14.89(SD:1.54) for those changing their medical treatments,. The 12 eyes with recent diagnosis started from an IOP average of 24.16(SD:3.9) mmHg, dropping to 16.50(SD:1.66) mmHG, 7 eyes excluded for post laser cataract procedure or lost during the follow-up

SLT shows to have an excellent efficacy and safety as replacement of or in addition to medical therapies, being a non-invasive procedure with longstanding effect. Sides effects were minimal and transient. As first-line treatment, it seems to be more effective than in eyes medically treated previously
