Abstract Details

To evaluate and compare the objective visual outcomes of Technis Symfony(ZXR00) Extended Range of Vision IOL (micro-mono-vision approach) with AcrySof IQ ReSTOR MFIOL (contralateral approach).

Advanced Eye Centre [AEC], Department of Ophthalmology, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. 160012

48 eyes of 24 patients were prospectively enrolled and stratified into two groups: Technis Symfony (Group-A, n=12) and MFIOL (Group-B, n=12). Target refraction was 0.50-0.75D myopia in non dominant eye of group-A & emmetropia in rest of the eyes of group-A & all eyes of Group-B. Two different near adds(.5D add in distance dominant eye and .0D add in other eye) were used in Group-B. Subjective refraction, Defocus Curve (DC) and Contrast-Sensitivity (CS) were evaluated at 1st and 3rd month.

At 3 months, the mean binocular UDVA for group-A&B was 0.05 & 0.02 respectively. Binocular mean distance corrected intermediate (50 cm) acuity was 0.29 Â± 0.16 in group-A and 0.27 Â± 0.11 in group-B. Binocular mean distance corrected near (30 cm) visual acuity 0.21 Â± 0.06 in group-A and 0.20 Â± 0.01 in group-B. Both the groups maintained amean LogMAR visual acuity of 0.18 or better through a defocus level of .0 to .0D but group-A patientsâ€™ maintained mean binocular LogMAR visual acuity of 0.00 from 0.0D to -1.5D defocus. Both the groups had comparable mean log contrast sensitivity values.

Both the approaches provide good level of spectacle independence at all distances and have similar contrast sensitivity values and have essentially similar results subjectively as well.
