Abstract Details

Purpose:

In the present study we suggest the usefulness of corneal epithelial maps with Opthical Coherence Tomography (OCT, AngioVue, IMEX) in order to achieve more specificity and sensitivity in the diagnosis of numerous corneal pathologies.

Setting:

The duty was done at AIKEN, Valencia

Methods:

MapsÂ of theÂ cornealÂ epithelialÂ and stromal thickness were generated from OCT in 25 subjects diagnosed of corneal pathologies by combined topography, tomography and Visual Acuity examination. We studied the diagnosis and the evolution of the corneal maps with treatment in several corneal pathologies.

Results:

A perfect correlation between the initial suspected diagnosis based on corneal topography and OCT image-based corneal epithelial maps was observed in all the patients. We observed the evolution of the corneal pathology with treatment.

Conclusions:

We believe that the study of anatomical changes through analysis of OCT corneal epithelial maps is helpful in the management and monitoring of patients with corneal diseases. It provides important additional information and is a good complement to the anatomical study and provides a novel benchmark for future and comparative studies.
