Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate eï¬€ectiveness of simultaneous wavefront-guided photorefractive keratectomy and corneal collagen crosslinking in keratoconus.

Setting:

Hankou Aier Hospital, Wuhan, China

Methods:

Prospective nonrandomized interventional study including 13 eyes of 8 patients with grade 1-2 keratoconus that underwent wavefront-guided transPRK using AMARIS (SCHWIND, Germany) followed by accelerated UVA collagen cross-linking(Avedro, USA). Maximum ablation depth did not exceed 70um. Follow-up period: 3-12 months.

Results:

UCVA was significantly improved from 0.85Â±0.46 logMAR preoperative, reaching 0.22Â±0.18 logMAR at 3 months (P<0.001). Preoperative BCVA (0.53Â±0.34 logMAR) showed a improvement to 0.10 Â± 0.09 logMAR at 3 months (P<0.001). Mean K value reduced from 45.6 Â± 3.89 D to 41.5 Â± 3.76 D at 3 months (P<0.002). Mean cylinder decreased from 3.55 Â± 0.79 D to 1.25 Â± 0.81D (P<0.003).

Conclusions:

Simultaneous wavefront-guided photorefractive keratectomy and accelerated corneal collagen crosslinking is an effective procedure in the treatment of keratoconus.
