Purpose:

Setting:

Methods:

Retrospective study including 54 eyes of 36 patients with previous corneal refractive surgery (group 1) and 122 eyes of 76 patients (control group- group 2) that underwent cataract surgery between 2014-2016. Data was collected on age at the time of refractive surgery, timing and age at cataract surgery, best corrected visual acuity prior to cataract surgery, axial length and gender.

Results:

Patients with previous LASIK procedure underwent cataract surgery at an earlier age compared with controls (p<0,05). patients with longer axial length underwent cataract surgery at a younger age. Male gender was not associated with early cataract surgery.

Conclusions:

Patients with previous LASIK undergo cataract surgery at a younger age compared to the general population. Several factors may contribute to this that have to be assessed in prospective randomized trials.
