Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the efficacy, visual acuity (VA) and complications of iris suture fixation of posterior chamber lens in the absence of capsular support

Setting:

Eye Clinic Day Hospital SÃ£o Paulo, SP, Brazil

Methods:

Thirty eyes of 27 patients who underwent iris suture fixation of posterior chamber lens were analysed retrospectively between January 2006 and July 2014 at the Eye Clinic Day Hospital SÃ£o Paulo, Brazil. Preoperative data included best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), postoperative outcomes included cystoid macular edema (CME), retinal detachment, dislocated intraocular lens and best corrected visual acuity.

Results:

Thirty eyes were analysed. The mean follow-up was 28 months. In 21 eyes (70%) BCVA improved, in 3 eyes (6.6%) it remained unchanged and in 6 eyes (13.3%) showed a decreased visual acuity. In this series 2 (6.6%) eyes presented cystoid macular edema, 2 eyes (6.6%) dislocated intraocular lens and none presented retinal detachment.

Conclusions:

In this series, iris suture fixation showed to provide safe and effective results in the treatment of patients without capsular support.
