Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine efficacy of AcrySof toric intraocular lens (IOL) implantation to correct astigmatism in patients with post-keratoplasty corneal astigmatism and coexistent cataract.

Setting:

Hospital de Sabadell (CSPT), Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Sabadell, Barcelona, Spain.

Methods:

Observational retrospective study. Cataract patients with corneal astigmatism after penetrating keratoplasty (PK) underwent phacoemulsification and AcrySof toric IOL implantation were assessed. Follow-up examinations were performed for 6 months including subjective refraction, uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA).

Results:

Ten eyes of 10 patients underwent AcrySof toric implantation between October 2012 and March 2014. 6 months postoperatively, mean refractive cylinder decreased significantly, from -4.71 ± 2.31 D to -1.29 ± 1.21 D. Mean spherical equivalent (SE) was within ±1.50 D of the target refraction in 7 eyes (70%).

Conclusions:

AcrySof toric IOL provides satisfactory visual recovery an effective management option for the correction of post-keratoplasty astigmatism and cataract.
