Visual outcomes after cataract surgery with implantation of a AcrySof IQ ReStor +2.5 D intraocular lens.

Abstract Details

Purpose:

The purpose of the clinical trial was to analyse the visual function, refractive outcomes and subjective visual symptoms after implantation of the AcrysofIQ Restor +2.5 D intraoocular lens.

Setting:

West Eye Ophthalmology Clinic, Izmir, Turkey

Methods:

Prospective clinical trial of 30 eyes of 30 patients that underwent phacoemülsification of the Acrysof IQ +2.5 D intraocular lens. Refraction, uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UCNVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UCIVA), contrast sensitivity, presence of halo and glare were analyzed at 6 monts postoperatively.

Results:

This study enrolled 30 eyes of 30 patients (12 women, 18 men) with a mean age of 54.3 ±8.7 years. Mean follow up was 6.2±0.63 months. The mean postoperative spherical equivalent was 0.12±0.2D. Six months postoperatively, the mean UCDVA was 0.03 ±0.25 logMAR, mean UCNVA was 0.17±0.14 logMAR at 40cm, mean UCIVA was 0.20±0.10 logMAR. Contrast sensitivity measurements under photopic and mesopic conditions were within normal limits. The mean patient satisfaction was up to 95%, all patients were totally spectacle independent. A low degree of glare and halo was detected in 6% of the subjects.

Conclusions:

Patients with distant dominant lifestyles can do well with the AcrySof IQ ReStor +2.5. This lens not only provides a greater degree of sharp distance vision compared with the +3.0 lens, but it also decreases spectacle dependence for near and intermetiate vision tasks.
