Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the postoperative outcomes of three different multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) in patients with cataract.

Setting:

Avrupa Eye Hospital

Methods:

This prospective nonrandomized study included patients with cataract and a motivation for spectacle independence. Three different multifocal IOLs (ZEISS Atlisa group 1, Acriva Reviol MFB 625 group 2, AcrySof ReSTOR SA60D3 IOL group 3) were implanted in the capsular bag. Three months after surgery, the distance, intermediate, and near visual acuities; spherical equivalent; residual refractive astigmatism were evaluated. A patient satisfaction and visual phenomena questionnaire was administered to all patients.

Results:

Three hundred eyes of 150 patients were equally distributed to the groups. Three months after surgery, the mean uncorrected distance visual acuity (logMAR) was 0.0 ± 0.04 at 6 m, 0.24 ± 0.09 at 70 cm, and 0.08 ± 0.10 at 40 cm in group 1, 0.0 ± 0.05 at 6 m, 0.28 ± 0.08 at 70 cm, and 0.08 ± 0.12 at 40 cm in group 2, 0.0 ± 0.04 at 6 m, 0.16 ± 0.07 at 70 cm, and 0.08 ± 0.07 at 40 cm in group 3.

Conclusions:

Multifocal IOL implantation in patients with cataract was a simple, safe, and accurate option. This technology provides surgeons with a feasible option for meeting patient expectations of an enhanced lifestyle resulting from decreased spectacle dependence.
