Abstract Details

Purpose:

Providing an overview of a Trifocal IOL vs. mini-monovision IOL’s principles, planning and outcomes.

Setting:

Twenty patients who had bilateral Trifocal IOL implants and twenty patients who had bilateral monofocal IOL implants were followed with post-operative visits ranging from 3 -18 months. An in-house patient visual disability and satisfaction questionnaire was drafted based on the CATQUEST design.

Methods:

Comparing reported patient satisfaction, un-aided VA at distance, intermediate and near, as well as stereo-acuity and spectacle independence. Indication of secondary procedures required are also listed as well as similar literature research.

Results:

Groups were similar in satisfaction rating, with Trifocal group reporting higher spectacle independence and mini-monovision group reporting less dysphotopsias.

Conclusions:

Both lens options give high patient satisfaction. Cost and desire for spectacle independence seem to be the determining factors for patient decision making
