As
reported in last months editorial the EuroAsian Ophthalmology Congress
in Shangai has been postponed until Dec 11-15 2003. Many of us have
been looking forward to taking part in this unique educational event
in conjunction with the Chinese Ophthalmological Society. We are
confident that the postponement will not reduce the enthusiasm of
teachers, delegates and the trade.
The recently announced marriage between the ISRS (International
Society of Refractive Surgery) and the AAO (American Academy of
Ophthalmology) would seem to have implications for the future of
refractive surgery education in the Americas. At a time when many
are finding trans-atlantic travel problematic, international organisations
will have to work harder and harder to attract a following.
This summer elections will be held for five vacant positions on
the ESCRS Board. This will represent a commitment of time and energy
on the part of the successful candidates and I urge all ESCRS members
to show their support of the Society by voting in this election.
Profiles of all the nominees will appear in the July issue of EuroTimes.
Ballots will be sent to all members in June. Results of the voting
will be announced at the ESCRS Congress in Munich in September and
reported in the October issue of EuroTimes.
As
always your comments and suggestions are most welcome!
