Abstract Details

To investigate visual and refractive outcomes with the Visian implantable collamer lens(ICL).

Optical Express, Glasgow, UK

This is a retrospective study of patients undergoing ICL implantation for the correction of myopia. The safety, efficacy, predictability and stability were assessed.

A total of 43 eyes were identified. Mean follow up was 33 months. Mean age was 33 years (range 24 to 47)The mean pre-operative spherical equivalent (SE) was -10.8+(range -3.15 to -18.25). At 3 months the mean SE was -0.04 + 0.28(range -0.88 to +0.75) while the uncorrected distance visual (UDVA) was 0 logmar or better in 67.3%. In terms of predictability 95.25 were within 0.5D of emmetropia. At the last post operative mean SE -0.01 + 0.32 (range -0.75 to +0.88), UDVA 72.2% were 0 logmar or better with 90.5% being with 0.5 D of emmetropia.

The Visian ICL provides excellent visual outcomes with long term refractive stability and a low incidence of complications.
