Abstract Details

Purpose:

Purpose: To present a case underwent phakic iris-claw intraocular lens implantation after high hyperopia and corneal flattening due to radial keratotomy in an eye with keratoconus.

Setting:

Setting: Istanbul Medeniyet University, Medical Faculty; Turkey.

Methods:

Case: Radial keratotomy had been performed in the keratoconic left eye of a 18-year-old girl. Preoperative SimK1 and SimK2 values were 43.50 and 47.50. Three years after surgery, a significant corneal flattening was developed (SimK1: 36.00 D and SimK2: 37.50D). The refraction was +8.50 +1.75 X 42. Uncorrected and corrected visual acuities (UCVA and BCVA) were 1 meter finger counting and 0.5, respectively. Anterior chamber depth was 3.37 mm from corneal endothelium.

Results:

An iris-claw phakic intraocular lens was implanted. At postoperative 6 month examination, the refraction was -1.75 -1.50 X 135 and UCVA and BCVA were 0.2 and 0.66, respectively.

Conclusions:

Conclusion: Phakic iris-claw intraocular lens implantation seems to be a reasonable and safe choice in keratoconic eyes that developed corneal flattening after radial keratotomy.
