Abstract Details

Evaluate PTK treatment for patients with post adenoviral keratitis scar. Monitor the visual acuity and extent of disappearnce of the the scar.

Opthalmology Department,Faculty of Medicine,Cairo University.

10 eyes of 10 patients with post adenoviral stromal scar were exposed to PTK treatment, where epithelium was removed, and 10 -15 um laser stromal ablation was performed. Follow up by slit lamp examination and visual acuity was for 1 week,1 month, and 3 months postoperatively.

PTK showed significant improvement in visual acuity in 8 out of the 10 cases. However it did not completely remove the stromal scar in 7 of the cases.

PTK is a safe, easy, and convenient method to treat post adenoviral stromal scars. However,it can not be considered the standard protocol for such cases,as depth of the scar varies from one case to another.
