Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the anterior segment parameters between anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) and Sheimpflug imaging in normal patients.

Setting:

Persian Eye Clinic, a private eye clinic located in Isfahan city, Iran.

Methods:

107eyes of 54 healthy volunteer (24 male, 30 female) were enrolled in this study. The mean age was 28.71±8.4 years (19 to 52 years). All measurements were done by the same operator, under mesopic light condition with two optical methods: AS-OCT (Cassia ss-1000) and sheimpflug imaging (Pentacam high resolution). The evaluated parameters were anterior chamber depth (ACD), pachymetry in apex, center and thinnest position, keratometry in the steep and flat meridians, corneal astigmatism, highest and lowest anterior and posterior elevation.

Results:

Significant differences in anterior and posterior elevation values and ACD results were found between AS-OCT and sheimpflug imaging (all p< 0.05).keratometry , corneal cylinder and pachymetry values were similar by two methods (p> 0.01).however, Bland-Altman plots showed good agreement between the measurements of the two devices.

Conclusions:

Although there was a statistically significant difference in some parameters between OCT and Pentacam but our results showed good agreement between the measurements of the two devices. Both instruments provided reliable anterior segment evaluations in normal eyes.
