Abstract Details

Purpose:

Aim To evaluate the safety and efficacy of performing small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) procedure for myopic and myopic astigmatism correction

Setting:

The British Lasik and cosmetic Surgery center

Methods:

Participants Fifity eyes of 25 patients with myopia with and without astigmatism completed the final 6 month follow-up. Their preoperative mean spherical equivalent (SE) was −8.75±1.32 D. Methods A refractive SMILE for myopic treatments. Follow-up was performed at day 1, 7, 30, 90, 6 months. UDVA, BCVA, and pentacame were assessed at each visit. Main outcome measures Uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) and best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) after 6 months, objective and manifest refraction as well as slit-lamp examination, side effects.

Results:

Results Six months postoperatively the mean SE was −0.05 D±0.62 D. (97.8%) were within ±1.0 D, and 75.2% were within ±0.5 D of intended correction. Of the eyes treated, 90.5% had an UCVA of (20/20) or better.

Conclusions:

Conclusion This technique proved to be a safe and effective technique in different refractive cases especially in cases with high myopia and thin corneas
