Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes , IOL position and quality of vision in patients undergoing laser-assisted cataract surgery with implantation of the Tecnis ZMB00 diffractive multifocal IOL.

Setting:

Eye Center “East Sight Recovery, Moscow, Russia

Methods:

18 eyes of 12 patients with an age between 47 and 78 years underwent femtosecond laser-assisted phacoemulsification (Victus, USA) with implantation of the Tecnis ZMB00 diffractive multifocal IOL (Abbot t Medical Optics). IOL calculation was performed with third-generation IOL formulas (SRK/T, Hoffer Q and Holladay). Femtosecond laser-assisted stage involved anterior capsulotomy, lens fragmentation and corneal paracentesis. Phacoemulsification was performed using Stellaris PC phacomachine.Postoperatively, refractive outcomes, uncorrected distance, intermediate and near visual acuities, IOL position, spectacle dependence were determined. Follow-up period was 3-10 months.

Results:

There were no intra-operative complications. Manifest refraction (Em+0,5 D) was achieved in 83,3 % cases. The right IOL position was observed in all cases. Uncorrected distance visual acuity 20/25 or better was achieved in 89% , uncorrected near visual acuity 20/40 (J3) or better - in 78% , intermediate visual acuity 20/50 or better - in 72% . All patients were satisfied after surgery. All patients did not wear glasses for daily activities. Only 2 patients (11%) required postoperative correction for intermediate distance. Low level of halo perception was reported in 28%.

Conclusions:

The femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery with implantation of the Tecnis ZMB00 diffractive multifocal IOL provides an effective restoration of the distance, intermediate and near visual function, allowing patients to be spectacle independent and provides high level of patient satisfaction.
