Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate axis deviation and postoperative astigmatism after implantation of toric implantable collamer lens (ICL) with central hole.

Setting:

Samsung Medical Center,Seoul,Korea

Methods:

Patients with moderate to high myopia underwent unilateral or bilateral toric ICL with central hole (V4C model, STAAR Surgical, Nidau, Switzerland) implantation. Uncorrected visual acuity, manifest refractive spherical equivalent (MRSE), intraocular pressure (IOP), endothelial cell count (ECC) and central vault were assessed preoperatively and postoperatively. The degree of axis rotation of toric ICL was analyzed by comparing anterior segment photograph.

Results:

The mean follow-up period of 20 eyes of 13 patients was 3.63 ± 1.76 months (range, 1.5 to 8). The mean rotation of toric ICL was 1.71 ± 1.50 degrees (range, 0.0 to 5.24). All preoperative refractive power was improved. Preoperarive spherical refraction was -8.73 ± 3.20 and postoperative spherical refraction was +0.09 ± 0.23 (p<0.05). Preoperarive cylindrical refraction was -2.34 ± 0.63 and postoperative cylindrical refraction was -0.34 ± 0.29 (p<0.05). The mean vault was 721.10 ±182.98 um (range, 514 to 1,074). There was no postoperative reduction of ECC and increase of IOP.

Conclusions:

The study suggested that toric ICL with central hole had rotational stability and corrected myopic astigmatism effectively without significant adverse effects. Toric ICL with central hole might be a good alternative to correct myopic astigmatism.
