Abstract Details

Purpose:

This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of preoperative factors on the refractive outcome after cataract surgery in patients treated with glaucoma.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Chonnam National University Medical School and Hospital, Gwangju, South Korea

Methods:

Eyes were divided into 2 groups: eyes with stable refractive outcome (less than ± 1.0D) and those with unstable refractive outcome (more than ± 1.0D) at both 3 and 6 months after uneventful cataract surgery. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were performed to investigate factors associated with the postoperative refractive outcome.

Results:

100 eyes with stable refractive outcome and 18 eyes with unstable refractive outcome were enrolled. In the univariate regression analysis, lens vault (LV), Relative LV, iridocorneal angle (ICA) width and angle closure type were associated with unstable refractive outcome after cataract surgery. In the multivariate regression analysis, ICA width was the only independent factor for predicting unstable refractive outcome after cataract surgery in patients with glaucoma (OR, 0.865; 95% CI, 0.765 - 0.977; P = 0.02).

Conclusions:

ICA width may be a predictable factor for refractive outcome after cataract surgery in patients treated with glaucoma irrespective of type of glaucoma.
