Abstract Details

Purpose:

The aim of study to investigate the refractive outcomes and rate of complications following Medennium posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (MPL) implantation.

Setting:

Blue Eye” Centro di Chirurgia Oculare, Milano, Italy, “International Center for Ophthalmology”, Moscow, Russia

Methods:

139 eyes of 79 patients which had undergone PIOL implantation were included. Refractive errors ranged from -3.25 to -27.00 diopters (D). The mean follow-up period was 23.12±9.71 months. Autorefractometry, uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), optical biometry, intraocular pressure (IOP), AC OCT, corneal endothelial cell (CEC) loss were measured.

Results:

The mean SE, UCVA, BCVA were signifacatly improved after MPL implantation. The mean distance between Crystalline lens and MPL was 367,47±91 µm. The mean anterior chamber angle was 38±7.85. The mean CEC loss was 2.84±1.12%. No induced cataract, glaucoma, or inflammation were observed. There was no significant increase in IOP. The safety and stability were proved.

Conclusions:

MPL implantation affords good long-term safety and stability of refraction in patients with high myopia.  FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: One or more of the authors has significant investment interest in a competing company
