Abstract Details

To evaluate the learning curve of FLACS with Ziemer Z8,comparing the difficulties and complications wit manual phacoemulsification.

Hospital ArrĂ¡bida Porto Portugal

50 consecutive eyes with cataracts of different grades were operated with FLACS with Ziemer Z8. The vaccuum time, the amount of ultrasound used, the surgical technique and complications were evaluated.

During the learning curve the vaccuum time has been reduced from 3 minutes to 2 minutes. The surgical technique has been improved leading to decrease in US time. No complications were observed during the learning curve.

Like any surgical technique, Flacs has a learning curve. It is a steep curve that leads to optimization of the procedure.. However it is important to point that no complications occurred during the learning curve of FLACS with Ziemer Z8.
