Analysis of surgical cases with different way of recording is key factor for successful phaco training programme

Purpose:

Recording and analysis of recorded cases is one of the most important factor in phaco training programme Author is recording cases by two ways ,one through microscope and second by external video camera. External way of recording of hand movements during surgery has significant role in this training programme

Setting:

Study conducted at Navneet hospital, INDIA

Methods:

This study has been carried out in last two years from February 2011 to February 2013. Two groups has been formed. Group A Recording of cases through microscope only. Group B Recording of cases through microscope and simultaneously external video camera for hand movements . Eighteen doctors selected in each group. Analysis done related to duration, accuracy of workup and complication rate. Illustrated video clip is attached.

Results:

Learning curve means duration of learning phaco is less in Group B ( 4.11 -+ 0.76 ) than Group A ( 8.22-+ 0.88 ) P < 0.0001. Accuracy of workup is better and complication rate is also less in Group B than Group A which is statistically prooved by chi square test=28 and p< 0.0001

Conclusions:

General recording of cases through microscope and then analysis is important . But according to the author External recording of hand movements has given extra confidence to surgeons in this training programme
