The Pentacam corneal topography system in preoperative diagnostic examination of patients wishing to carry out surgical correction of vision

Purpose:

To introduce in universal practice examination of patients wishing to carry out the surgical correction of vision using scanning projective keratotopographer "Pentacam"

Setting:

The Khabarovsk branch of the State Institution Eye Microsurgery Complex named after S.N. Fyodorov

Methods:

Examination of two groups of patients was conducted: the 1st (30 patients) – with the diagnosis of keratoconus; the 2nd (30patients ) – suspicion on keratoconus; the control group (30 patients) – without eye pathology.

Results:

The earliest and characteristic in keratoconus forecasting there were indicators of elevation of a corneal posterior surface. So in the first group they were 4-5 times higher in comparison with the control group. In the 2nd group they were also authentically raised twice in comparison with control.

Conclusions:

Corneotopographer "Pentacam" application in preoperative diagnostic examination allows to reveal patients with preclinical keratoconus manifestations. The most informative is the research of elevation of a posterior surface of a cornea.
