To evaluate the safety and efficacy of posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation (ICL), manufactured by STAAR Surgical, to correct myopia.
Refractive Surgery Center, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei, China
128 eyes that underwent ICL implantation are included in this retrospective analysis. These patients have been followed up for at least half a year. Log MAR Visual Acuity, Spherical Equivalent, Intraocular Pressure (IOP), Anterior Chamber Depth (ACD), Lens Density, Endothelium Count, and Contrast Sensitivity are measured preoperatively and 1 month, 3 months, 6months postoperatively
The changes of distant visual acuities between preoperative and 1 month, 3 months, 6 months postoperative are -1.615ḟ0.356, -1.587ḟ0.365, -1.782ḟ0.250 respectively. It is concluded that postoperative distant visual acuities are better than preoperative ones. There are significant statistical differences between the preoperative distant visual acuities and postoperative ones. The changes of near visual acuities are 0.382ḟ0.143, 0.480ḟ0.151, 0.402ḟ0.140. The changes of ACDs are -0.158, -0.170, -0.144. The changes of IOPs are -0.242, -0.034, 0.621. The changes of endothelium counts are -240.287, -213.358, -246.926. The changes of lens densities are -0.022, -0.032, -0.078. The changes of contrast sensitivities are -0.096, -0.097, -0.046. There are no significant statistical differences of near visual acuities, ACDs, IOPs, endothelium counts, lens densities between the preoperative and postoperative ones, except for postoperative contrast sensitivities which are much better than preoperative ones.
Posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation, manufactured by STAAR Surgical, can increase patients distant visual acuities obviously, and highten their contrast sensitivities. There are no significant differences of near visual acuities, IOPs, ACDs, endothelium counts, lens densities between preoperatively and postoperatively ones.
