Purpose:

To evaluate results and complications of biocompatible collagen copolymer implantable contact lenses over 4 years.

Setting:

B B Eye Foundation, Kolkata, India

Methods:

176 eyes out of 106 patients underwent ICL implantations. Toric ICLs was implanted in 148 eyes and Spheric ICL in 28 eyes. The patients were seen on day 1, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 monthly.

Results:

At 4 years, 150 eyes (85%) had visual acuity within 0.5 D and 162 eyes (92%) within 1.0 D of intended correction. 2 cases of anterior subcapsular cataract were seen, one eye had hyphaema which reduced conservatively, 7 eyes had transient IOP increase as steroid responders.

Conclusions:

Phakic posterior chamber lenses provide safe and stable visual results. Complications need to be treated early to prevent visual loss.
